The wind was biting at our heels all day as it switched from west wind to east wind. (Perhaps that makes no sense because we were not running around. The was, nonetheless, a frenzy of activity.)

It was pretty dramatic because the west wind had created quite a swell, and so when the wind switched directions the tops kept blowing off the peaks with a lot of spray. That spray, however, was nothing compared to the spray created by a small group of Bottlenose dolphins who charged right into the wind at an uncommonly fast speed.

Earlier in the day about five hundred Common dolphins foraged across Counter Point, and they did not create the spray of the Bottlenose dolphins. The Harbor seal in the kelp created no spray at all.

We did not see a Gray whale again today. I guess that means something … Maybe we will catch some late travelers on our final weekend.

Gray whales northbound (all) 0 | Calves 0 — 2012 Count 957 | 235

Hours 8:00
