Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 02
Wednesday, February 18, 2015
King tides ruled the day with very high, high tide and very low, low tide. It was a surfers’ paradise of beautiful overhead waves and some sun to brighten our day, after a foggy morning that postponed our start to 9:15.
Dolphins were all over the place. Commons were first on the scene and after lunch Bottlenose dolphins made their 2015 Count debut in a big way with seven sightings, a couple sightings of at least a dozen. One of those sightings escorted a mating trio of northbound Gray whales all the way across our vantage.
That threesome brought our total for the day to four because we saw a shy single at noon.
We love whales late in the day and we loved the pair that blew their way into the sunset at the end of our day.
We are off to a very fun start.
