Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 04
Friday, February 20, 2015
Our whales were a bit too far for images; not the Bottlenose dolphins who joined the lineup at Devereux, up close and personal with the other locals. The group of eight dolphins may have been introducing their two young ones to the strange black creatures who are not so adept in the waves.
We saw five northbound Gray whales — two pairs and a single — and we consider ourselves lucky to have documented them. The all had very long downtimes, which made them very difficult to track.
The single southbounder we saw fluke and then it disappeared.
We sighted several groups of Common dolphins that might have been the same dolphins moving in and out, quite close to shore for Commons.
We recorded a Harbor seal three times during the day, and it may have been the same seal. What we did not see today was a California Sea lion on the sand. Good.
