Cheers for George W ( … ashington) !
Setting up we saw our first sighting of northbound Gray whales and just before nine, we were drenched by a sudden shower. We dried out and were able to return in less than an hour. In this stretch, we saw lots of Common dolphins, a Harbor seal, a pair of southbound Gray whales , and more Commons, and then the rain again.
In less than a short, lunch break we were out on the Point again. We saw another small group of Commons, and then a trio of northbound Gray whales, followed a short while later by the pair of northbounders in the image. The rain cleansed the atmosphere and actually made it easier for us to see the whales.
And we continued to see … dolphins: more Commons and a single Bottlenose.
For some reason the song Gimme Shelter was in our minds as we encountered another short shower.
Back on the Point until almost 5, we saw Harbor seals, lots of Lags (Pacific White-sided dolphins) and another trio of Northbound Gray whales swimming into the rain that forced us to shut down a few minutes early.
It was wet, but incredibly beautiful while we counted a lot of whales for this time of year.
