Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 28
Monday, March 16, 2015
We did not make twenty northbound Gray whales until the final fifteen minutes of our very hot and hazy day. It was generally hard to see, yet we were finding whales and dolphins at pretty great distances all day.
Early on, we were talking about the many differences of this years’ Count, and one item on the list was the lack of Humpback whales. Today, we saw at least five, plus some unidentified sightings that were probably Humpbacks.
The Common dolphins were also more Common dolphin like: spread out all over the place, foraging, leaping, splashing. The Gray whales seemed a bit timid passing through a section of the large group of dolphins. Understandable.
We also saw six Bottlenose dolphins that seemed to be just passing by unconcerned by the ruckus outside.
