Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 31
Thursday, March 19, 2015
Introducing the synchronized migration competition: Sighting number 20, preforming their exclusive double-blow, passing Counter Point, which drew several perfect tens from the panel, with the Russian judge, the “outliar” marking 5.1. (For all those out there who remember the sixties ...)
Undaunted, these exceptional whales repeated their maneuver twice more for the cheering throng at Counter Point.
Counters had their own almost-exceptional day. Yesterday, we remarked that we could not imagine another count of 53 for a day. We came pretty close with a great effort by Counters: 51 !!!
Samara Trevella, Ashley Steinkraus, and Jimmy Ambach managed data, while Grace Powers, Mark Ellinwood, Richard Kentro, Carol Carpenter, and Marge Erickson found and tracked the cavalcade whales. Outstanding work !!!
Even with all those whales and numerous whitecaps in the afternoon, there was room on our datasheet for a Harbor seal and Bottlenose dolphins.
