Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 32
Friday, March 20, 2015
Lots of sightings — 24 — and a count of 37 northbound Gray whales. Today’s lot included lots of juveniles. Around mid-day we had a group of six whales that shed a pair and then came back together passing the oil platform. We had three threesomes and all the rest were singles and pairs scattered across the day.
One of our late afternoon groups was coaxed along by a pair of Bottlenose dolphins. Early in the day a small group of Common dolphins were mixing things up, when a Humpback restored order with a huge breach a mile and a half due south of Counter Point. The shock wave seemed to keep a pair of Gray whales underwater for a longer period of time.
We did not find a Harbor seal today.
We started early because a whale was there; and extended a bit to ID our last Gray whale pair. Always our pleasure.
