Gray Whales Count
Day 38

We installed a new, living, breathing, whale fountain in front of Counter Point today. It was draped in kelp for the occasion. The sculpture is only temporary, so the Coastal Commission should not mind.
The installation was just before twelve and concurrent with sightings of two Cow/calf pairs, with the lead ahead of the trail pair by about 200 meters. Oddly, they both ducked under water after the art affair and were not seen again until they surfaced outside the Ellwood kelp almost two miles away.
All our sixteen Gray whales were sighted before one. Two sightings of Bottlenose dolphins enlivened the beautiful, warm afternoon.
