Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 39
Friday, March 27, 2015
So ... where are we in the Count on March 27, 2015 ?
While we cannot directly compare RAW data, we can speculate we are somewhere in the middle of the two humps depicted in the graph of 2012 daily effort. The general migration seems to be winding down and the calf migration has begun: a mix of red and blue.
Then again, this is a crazy year, so we cannot say for sure ... tomorrow and several tomorrows counting may tell.
Today, we had “only” fifteen whales, including one calf. There were plenty of dolphins: many, many Commons, two good-sized groups of Lags with even more sea lions. Only a pair of Bottlenose dolphins passed by the Point. (By the way, we have not yet seen Quasimoda this year. We are keeping a look out.)
We had two (we think) different California sea lion weaners: one on a rock in the surf, and another on a mussel bed. They seemed OK but wanting a rest.
We did not sea a Harbor seal today.
