We took another step towards one thousand today, literally one step, one whale. Perhaps, it was the calm before the storm, even though there was a breeze in the late afternoon.
Yes, we hope there is a “storm” of whales in our near future ...
Brants and dolphins did their best to provide a rhythm to the day. We saw several strings of Brants migrating north, and lots of leaping Lags and Common dolphins with some of the slowest slow-traveling Bottlenose dolphins cruising at water’s edge at low tide.
We distinguished three different, distinguished Harbor seals. One tried to rest on a rock at the Point, after it had spent most of the morning resting in the kelp. The tide was coming in, which actually helped the seal get on the rock, until the next wave rolled him off.
