Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 44
Wednesday, April 1, 2015
No fools, we know when to come in from the wind.
There was a light, west wind opposing the swell in front of us. The chop made it difficult for us to identify a whale. Two singles were traveling apart. We got one and not the other: one northbound Er, one ULW (unidentified large whale). An earlier pair of whales was easier. Even so, at least one Counter thought it might have been three ... such are the problems wind creates.
Soon after the start, we found a Harbor seal quite close to shore. Much further out, about one hundred fifty Common dolphins splashed their way through the chop, westward.
After lunch the wind turned around and became a solid five Beaufort, forcing us in for the day.
