Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 66
Thursday, April 23, 2015
Instead of one thousand words, this image is two: California Experience! Sun, a California Brown Pelican, surf, and a Gray whale calf. We saw a lot of the above today: twenty northbound Gray whales composed of ten Cow/calf pairs.
Three were in groups of pairs of pairs. The above calf was in such a group. They launched into the lineup at Sands and rolled all the way to Ellwood and then traveled inside the Cormorant Towers by the Oil Pier.
We saw Bottlenose dolphins that sometimes hung out with the whales, even though the whales seemed to prefer they keep to themselves.
Harbor seals were also seen, but they were mostly resting in the kelp, not messin’ with anybody.
