Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 92
Tuesday, May 19, 2015
It was beautiful in the Channel with shades of green and blue and a pair of Gray whales, before the wind came up. Mom might have been on the young-side. She was small and her calf looked pretty small too, on the inside, outside the kelp off Counter Point. Both seemed to be doing just fine.
Like yesterday, the wind and rough seas cut our day short. But, the calves are continuing. And, we have decided tentatively extend our survey through Friday, May 29. We will keep Counters posted.
News of Concern: There was an oil spill from land north of Refugio Beach. The spill drained south across the beach and into the ocean. This is a location where Gray whale Cow/calf pairs sometimes mingle before heading towards Point Conception. For updates, check this link to the Independent.
