Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 01
Tuesday, February 16, 2016
What a glorious first day of our 12th survey of the northbound migration of Gray Whales through the nearshore of the Santa Barbara Channel. It is such fun being back at Counter Point in the Coal Oil Point Reserve. We found 6 northbound Gray whales, with 5 Gray whales crossing their path going southbound. We saw lots of Common dolphins, a group of five, feeding Bottlenose dolphins, and a Harbor seal, with many California sea lions roaming across the flat-calm sea.
We also greeted many friends from the communities of UCSB, Goleta, and Santa Barbara, who warmly wished us well in our endeavor. In twelve years, we have made many friends. Yes, Counters are the best of friends. Thank you all.
