Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Day 33
Saturday, March 19, 2016
Our Great Blue Heron was resplendent on a very gray day with difficult Gray whales and less than optimal observation quality through most of the day. Even so, we delighted in fourteen more northbound Gray whales, a Humpback whale, lots and lots and lots of Pacific White-sided dolphins with the usual California Sea lions. Odd that we did not see a Harbor seal, but we were treated to two Otters who moved around a bit. One — porpoised — from Counter Point to the IV kelp in a hurry. There didn’t seem to be any reason for alarm. Maybe it was just working off breakfast.
Lots of community folks and international visitors strolled by the Point, got to see some whales, and shared stories and warm conversation about the whales, the migration, and the ocean environment with Carol Rae, who is our Education Specialist. She helped initiate the project and has participated in all twelve surveys!
