Gray Whales Count

Day 50

Tuesday, April 5, 2016

This Red-winged Blackbird successfully scoured the foliage at Counter Point and secured a green caterpillar. We scoured the sea after 9:10 and found a green (as in young) Gray whale.

After a bang-bang start of a trio and a pair, we were ready for more. Fortunately, we remained ready because the Gray whale we found at 3:30 might have been missed even in the good visibility we enjoyed for most of the day. Beautiful today.

At our start, we found an otter resting in the kelp and surrounded by three resting Harbor seals. He awoke and decided the spot was open next to an otter a ways off also in the kelp.

Bottlenose dolphins were all round the Point, active and numerous.
