Gray Whales Count

Blog Day 08 2019

Wednesday, February 20

Cold, windy, and a very short day. Even so, we caught a pair of northbound gray whales outside the kelp. We tracked them across the Point, where one of the pair leaped into the wind: 2 breaches!

A bit later a Harbor seal was swimming in with the high tide. Just before the wind closed us down, a trio of bottlenose dolphins swam through the kelp from east to west.

This was our first Harbor seal of the Count, and we have not yet seen an otter.
