Gray Whales Count
Gray Whales Count
Blog Day 41 2019
Monday, March 25
We arrived to find Welcome Back and ‘Nuther (our otters) wrapped in kelp. Welcome Back was in his spot and ‘Nuther was in the kelp at Counter Point. Now, that is a good trend.
Our trendy northbound gray whales were up at seventeen, with zero calves.
Bottlenose dolphins found what they were looking for in the Counter Point kelp, just west of ‘Nuther.
At about one a Counter spotted a parade line of about five hundred common dolphins charging into the chop and whitecaps 2+ mile south of us; and, about ten or eleven humpbacks seemed to be finding something about two miles out. They hung around all day.
At the end of the day, a gray whale breached a quarter mile out, in front of us. It was the third time this year, we have seen an end-of-the-day-gray-whale-breach. Another nice trend!
